Raj uncovers an unexpected PRMT Function at FASEB 2026
Raj presented his talk, “A Non-Canonical Role of a Conserved Arginine Methyltransferase” , at the FASEB Protein Arginine Methylation: Mechanism to Therapeutics conference in Tsukuba, Japan. He highlighted novel, non-canonical PRMT functions and engaged with leading scientists, fostering discussions on emerging pathways in RNA biology.

Well defended and now officially Dr. Gayatri Mohanan!
Congratulations to Dr. Gayatri Mohanan on successfully defending her PhD thesis! She presented her thesis on "RNA granules and DNA damage: Exploring the interplay between translation control and genotoxic stress response" on 23rd January 2026.

🏅 Lab Laurels at IYM 2025:Kudos to Shweta for Her First Prize Win!
We are thrilled to celebrate Shweta S Tiwari for winning First Prize in the poster presentation category at IYM 2025 ! Her poster, “RGG-motif protein Scd6 affects oxidative stress response by regulating cytosolic catalase T1 (Ctt1),” highlighted exciting new insights into how Scd6 regulates cellular oxidative stress defense.

Yeast at the Heart of Big Science: IYM 2025
The 13th International Conference of Yeast Biology – India Yeast Meeting (IYM) 2025 was held from 3–6 December 2025 at IISc Bengaluru, bringing together researchers and students from across India and abroad. The meeting featured engaging talks, posters, and discussions highlighting the central role of yeast in addressing fundamental questions in modern biology.

Making headlines: From Petri Dish to Planet Red!
Our recent publication, “Ribonucleoprotein (RNP) condensates modulate survival in response to Mars-like stress conditions” , carried out in collaboration with PRL-Ahmedabad, has generated significant media buzz across national and international platforms. The work uncovers how RNA–protein condensates enable yeast to survive Mars-like stress, bridging fundamental biochemistry and astrobiology. https://share.google/ZSGVkASF1RkExdgcH https://share.google/gN04iKGHSSdB37qQs...

IISc–ICTS Workshop Illuminates the Dynamics of RNA Functions
The ICTS–IISc Workshop on “Dynamics and Evolution of RNA Functions (DERF 2025)” brought together leading scientists and young researchers to explore the dynamic world of RNA biology — spanning translation, regulation, and RNA–protein condensates. Dr. Purusharth I. Rajyaguru, Dr. Sandeep Eswarappa, Dr. Tanweer Hussain, and Dr. Umesh Varshney from the Department of Biochemistry, IISc , played a pivotal role in organising the workshop and hosting participants , fostering a vib
